The Clay KIDS CLUB for HOMESCHOOLERS Celebrates One Year

Updated: Oct 3

Last October, we launched a Kids Club for Homeschoolers. The club was created as a way for homeschoolers to socialize, meet friends, and have fun in a safe and kind environment.

One year later, it has become our most favorite thing we've ever done...

The friendships that have formed, the sheer joy and happiness on the faces of all the kids and adults alike, the incredible bond our group has made...it really is remarkable. Who knew running a Kids Club would be so fun and rewarding…

In the last year, we have enjoyed the simple things together like Lunchbox Meetups & Park Playdates, Boardgame Matchups, and Beach Days

As a group, we’ve also learned new sports - Disc Golf, Tennis, and Archery.

We've held successful Book Club Meetings with the Wings of Fire book series and Drawing Challenge Days that became intense, and hilarious, and no one wanted to leave.

We've had wild Nerf Gun Battles on Playgrounds and crazy Squirt Gun Fights at the Park, that have led to Birthday Celebrations and Pool Parties.

We've taken Field Trips to Museums of Art, History, & Science, we’ve ventured to an Unlimited-Play Arcade (twice), and we’ve even been to Lego Land.

This was just OUR FIRST YEAR!

Where will we go next? What will we do?

We have families who are longtime residents of Clay County, and we also have families who have just moved to Florida. We’d like to think we’re the club for most anyone.

Our Kids Club is Director-led but Member-driven, meaning members (kids & adults alike) suggest activities and field trips they'd like to see become club events.

Beginning at the time of signup, we survey our members on interests and availability, and we aim to please as many members as possible by creating a wide array of events.

We average 3-4 club events per month.

Most of our events take place in Clay County, Florida, with most field trips in Alachua and Duval Counties, but for special field trips, like to Lego Land, we traveled all the way to Winter Haven. Bioluminescent Kayaking will be outside of our usual area too.

Upcoming Events Include:

Drawing Challenge Day (repeat event, by popular request)

Bowling

Boardgame Match-ups

Lego Challenge Day - Racing Lego Cars (with a ramp)

Camping Trip

Golf

Self-Defense

Emotions & Communications Class for Kids

Lifting Weights/Meet A Personal Trainer

Next Up Field Trips Include:

Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens

Nighttime Bioluminescent Kayaking Trip

Unlimited-Play Arcade (3rd return fieldtrip, by kids' requests)

For the safety of our kiddos, we do not publish event locations online (unless it's a field trip to a certain place, then the date & time are intentionally left off the public post).

Members receive a Monthly Newsletter via Email with all event details and locations included. Reminder emails and/or texts are sent out to those who RSVP as going.

Our Club Facebook Page is used to spread word of our events to potential new members.

What do the kids think about our Kids Club?

Well, our events last 3-3.5 hours, on average, even if they're only planned for 1.5-2 hours, and even at the 3-hour mark, parents have to work together to get the kiddos to say their good-byes, because none of them ever want to leave!

“So many of our kids give out hugs to everyone as they say good-bye. We didn’t tell them to, they just started doing it all on their own, said Catherine, the Club Director.

These friendships have truly been heart-warming to witness, especially knowing so many of our homeschoolers have experienced bullying or loneliness.

So, if your kiddos are in need of friends, our existing members would love to welcome them.

With more friends added, the club can only get better - and it's already pretty excellent right now - I mean we get to play games, do art, learn sports, and go on field trips, all in just one club. Who wouldn’t love that?”

Here's a real conversation from one of our member's homes:

Parent: "There's no (home)school on Monday, what are you going to do?" (Labor Day)

10-year-old Boy: "Wait for Tuesday."

Parent: "Oh yeah? Why's that?"

10-year-old Boy: "Because Tuesday is Kids Club!"

That's what we love to hear!

Our Kids Club is a special place because the people make it special.

We believe in showing kindness to one another.

We like to have fun in safe environments where everyone feels welcome.

No kid is left out.

Membership Dues are only $25 per year, and that's just to help with the cost of supplies.

If you can't afford to pay $25 for the year, it's not mandatory. We want every child to have the opportunity to socialize and meet friends, no matter the ability to pay. We will never ask for it beyond the pay link being included in the newsletter, it's 100% a donation to the club.

If this sounds like the right club for your child(ren), please join us for an upcoming event - just click the registration link below to sign up to receive event invitations and location details.
